Galveston County Commissioners Court approved a $42 million project to widen FM 646 from two to four lanes between Highway 6 and Highway 87 in Santa Fe, addressing one of the county's most congested corridors. The project is funded through a combination of county road bonds and TxDOT cost-sharing and is expected to break ground in spring 2027.
