Galveston County officially opened its new $18 million animal shelter in La Marque on Thursday, replacing the 40-year-old facility in Hitchcock. The new shelter features kennels for 500 dogs and 300 cats, a full veterinary clinic, a spay/neuter suite, adoption suites, and a pet food pantry. It is the largest county animal shelter on the Gulf Coast.
