The Galveston Police Department issued a public warning after 14 elderly residents reported losing a combined $380,000 to a phone scam in which callers impersonated GPD officers and told victims their grandchildren had been arrested and needed bail money. Police say the scam has been active for three weeks and is being run from outside the United States.

The price of U.S. crude rose to $104.24 a barrel following the blockade announcement and Brent crude oil, the international standard, rose to $102.29.
