Galveston Island recorded its highest spring break hotel occupancy rate in history this past weekend, with 98% of the island's 12,000 hotel rooms filled and an estimated 320,000 day-trippers visiting over the three-day period. The Galveston Island Convention and Visitors Bureau said visitor spending topped $48 million, a 22% increase over last spring break.
