Galveston Bay Dolphin Population Reaches 30-Year High; 1,200 Bottlenose Dolphins Counted

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released its annual Galveston Bay dolphin survey Thursday showing the bottlenose dolphin population has reached 1,200 individuals, the highest count in 30 years of systematic monitoring. NOAA researchers attribute the population rebound to improved water quality, reduced boat traffic in key feeding areas, and the recovery of the bay's fish populations.
